SEC Football is flying high.

We all love our SEC Football and there were some very good games this past weekend. One thing I learned is don’t schedule Navy if you can help it. That is a good, scrappy football team that will beat you if you are not ready to play amd may beat you even if you are ready to play. My hat goes off to those guys and their toughness. There triple option attack is almost impossible to defend.

Coach Spurrier in his post game interview said he was happy just to get that win because Navy was a very good football team. I was at that game and I concur. I would put Navy in my top 25.

What did we learn about South Carolina? Marcus Lattimore is a beast in case you didn’t know that. He rushed for 246 yards against a tough Navy defense. He should be in the top 2 or 3 for the Heisman Trophy. We don’t know if the Gamecock secondary improved any because Navy doesn’t throw the ball. They appeared to tackle a little better.

Mississippi State may not be as good as I thought they were at the start of the year. They don’t have the great defense you come to expect out of them and their offense is not clicking right now. They were facing the LSU defense Thursday night and that may have something to do with it.

LSU is my number one team not only in the SEC but the nation as of now.

I thought Alabama would score at least 60 against North Texas State. They must have called off the dogs early to let their stars have a rest before next weeks big game with Arkansas.

I picked them. In my preseason report I picked Vanderbilt as the most improved SEC football team and they are by a long shot. They are playing great defense to go with their offense that has some talented players.

Tennessee receiver Justin Hunter has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will need season-ending surgery. He was hurt early in the game aginst Florida. Florida came away with a 33-23 win. Losing Hunter is a big blow for the Vols. He was the Southeastern Conference leading pass receiver coming into the Florida game.

Tennessee is a young, talented and well coached. They can pull off a few upsets before the season is over.

Florida appears to be a little better than I thought they would be.  They will be tough to beat before the season is over.

Overall the SEC east does not appear to be down as much as some people thought. Vanderbilt is much better than in previous years. Georgia will get better as the year goes on are currently the best 1-2 team in the country.

Auburn jumped out to an early lead against Clemson but fell apart in the second half. Clemson exposed the Auburn defense as one of the worst in the SEC after giving up 624 yards of offense to Clemson in their 38-24 loss.

Mississippi is just bad. Vanderbilt beat them 30-7. A Houston Nutt team that only had 85 yards rushing against the Commodores is well – unheard of.

Kentucky lost to their rival Louisville 24-17. Another bad football team. Kentucky amd Mississippi are the two worst teams in the SEC. Neither team has much offense to speak of.

When I come out with my SEC rankings later this week you will see some movement of 4-5 SEC football teams.
